Love this site - check it out even if you aren't buying it is loaded with ideas and information. They are also excellent at answering queries about plants such as, What tree can I plant in a damp area? I have also bought from them and the quality and service were excellent. It is a 'bit of a treat' shopping and great when someone's bought you vouchers for your birthday or Christmas. Click here Crocus
Thompson and Morgan
Huge and ancient so pretty much everyone knows something about it. I do use them now and again but not mad keen, but useful if you are looking for a particular potato or something. Not the way to buy seeds unless you are desperate for a variety you can't find any where else as the postage is prohibitive. Click here Thompson and Morgan
Summerseat Garden Centre
I use it quite a lot. The plants are sometimes mixed quality and bought in rather than local nursery grown. The prices are also on the high side. That said they still go in my recommended list as they do have a fairly good range of stock and it is human-sized unlike places like Bents which I find overwhelming. It is also a pleasant outing if you build in lunch and a rummage round the shop. Summerseat Garden Centre, Railway St, Summerseat, Bury, Lancashire, BL9 5QD
Home Bargains, Netto, B & Q, etc
These sort of shops often have great cheap 'hardware' for the garden such as hanging baskets, bird food, plant food and so on. The do have plants every so often but I don't often buy them. They are worth keeping an eye out for though as sometimes (if you hit the delivery day) the quality is OK and the prices are good.
R H Gill, Boscow Nurseries
This is one I've gone back to time and again for thirty years so it must do the job. It is a nursery so you know the plants you buy can tough it out in our gardens and the prices are good. It is the nursery who sell on Bury Market. Boscow Road, Little Lever, Bolton, Lancashire BL3 1AH 01204 577 997
Your local allotment
The cheapest place to buy basics such as bonemeal and weed and feed is your
local allotment. I use Diggle Lane. Diggle Lane, Bury, BL8 2UW.
